QFAH block

Here is my first block for the QFAH with www.patchworktimes.com I put one together just to see what it would look like. I have a lot to do, they need to be pressed, squared

Monday Health and Fitness report

Well, I am kind of proud of myself. I managed to fit in 2 days of bike riding. I know I said I would bike ride 3 days a week for 30 minutes but I couldn't find time for a 3rd workout. ;( but I did 2 days so I am happy. The first day I rode I couldn't believe how out of shape I am. I rode around the block then had to stop and rest and start again. I didn't think I would make 30 minutes. This week I will JUST DO IT. I will ride 3 days for 30 minutes...no excuses! Oh yeah...I lost 1 pound.

QFAH hour 1 & 2

Here are my half square triangles. I started mine tonight and so far I have made 40. Only 80 more to go. I am kind of worried about the background colors I picked out. Since his favorite colors are black and red, I tried to pick something different than leaves and flowers. I am hoping that there is enough contrast in the two colors.

FITNESS AND HEALTH GOALS

I joined the crafty, creative and fit group on http://www.therunningquilter.blogspot.com/ and I have not made a commitment to exercise yet. I have been on a low carb diet and lost 6 lbs in 1 month but I gained back 2 lbs within the last 2 weeks. So I have decided to make a commitment to start bike riding for 30 minutes 3 times a week. I am really good at making excuses for not exercising but this time I will not put it off or make excuses! I will JUST DO IT!! as the Nike ad says. LOL I really need to make a change in my lifestyle. I had a physical today and my blood pressure was kind of high...140 over 94. SO I will just do it when I get home from work!

Judy L.QFAH starts Oct. 6

Today I went to the store and bought the fabric I am going to use for my QFAH quilt that Judy L designed. Her website is http://www.patchworktimes.com/ It is a beautiful quilt. I am going to make it for my 20 year old son for his Christmas present. His favorite colors are black and red. He does not anything girly like flowers and stuff like that. The red is a little different but with the black running thru it. I thought that would blend it all together. Anyways I really like the fabric I chose! I hope he does too. I think it will turn out great!

Thrift shopping

Saturday I went thrift shopping. I went to Bridgeford Farms Thrift Shop. All proceeds help mentally challenge children and adults. Anyways I got some really good bargains? I took a picture of the material I bought. Every piece of fabric is about 2 yards and and I ONLY PAID $1 FOR ALL OF IT!! The lady said they have so much stuff they just wanted to get rid of it and get some money to the kids. The jeans were normally priced $3 a pair but all clothes were half price. So I got 3 pairs of Levis 505, 2 pairs of Wranglers, and 2 pairs of shorts for my husband for $14. The lawn cushions cost $16 and all they need are a good cleaning. So we found some really good bargains! We believe in recycling, going green instead of going out and buying all new things.

Pinchusion

I made this little pinchusion. I got the pattern on http://www.allpeoplequilt.com/ I thought it was real cute and I wanted to make it. It is easy and if you have extra buttons that is a way you can use them.

Clean up

We started cleaning up this morning. My son, Quentin's grandson, Quentin and me all started cleaning the yard. It will take some time because there are little bitty pine cones all in the backyard. We need to get them up because of the dogs. JJ our lab, already cut her hind paw and has been limping. We need to bandage her foot. It is a lot of hard hot work.

New Dog came in with the Hurricane

We were sitting outside Sunday and this dog came running to us. She is a beautiful dog. She is a pit bull and my husband wants her. He said she would be a good watch dog and people will be scared of her just because she is a pit bull. She appears to be a gentle, friendly dog, maybe a family pet. She minds real good. My husband named her Molly. Looks like we have a new dog!

Kindness of Strangers

About 4 pm today, my next door neighbor (Virgina) knocked on the door and said some other people from the neighborhood wanted to help us remove the tree that fell on our travel trailer. I was so surprised that I was kind of speechless because I was worried about how we were going to take that tree down because it is so big. I was afraid it would be too hard for my husband and I to cut it down ourselves. We didn't have the extra money to pay anyone to remove it. We spent a lot of money buying gas to run the generator. We had to drive about 25 miles from our house to get gas since the town we live in did not have any electricity. We ran the AC at night so we could get a good nights sleep. I had to cook on a Coleman camp stove and I was thankful we had that. We lost all our food in the frig and in the freezer. We were without power since the 13th. I was really suprised when they offer to help us. Anyways it only took about 30 minutes and the tree was off our travel trailer! We will have to pick up all the tree sections and tree limbs tomorrow. They were so nice and we thanked them and they were on their way. They will be in my prayers tonight! I know God will bless them for helping us!

Safe and Sound in Texas!!!

Hurricane IKE is gone. Yahoo! We finally got our electricity and water back today! We are all safe and in one piece. We give Thanks to God that we still have our lives and house. We did have some minor damage...our neighbors big pine tree fell on our travel trailer. The limb went thru the roof. We are really blessed because my husband was standing on the back porch when the tree fell and it barely missed him and our house by about 1 foot. Anyways it was so nice to take a nice hot shower and wash my hair now that we have lights and water. Here are a few pictures.

Hurricane IKE

We are hunkering in from Hurricane IKE. We are about 100 miles from Galveston, TX We will be getting a lot of rain and high winds. We decided to stay at home and ride it out. On Thursday we started getting ready for the hurricane, we bought soups, lunch meat, soda, water and nonperisherables. We put gas in our vehicles. We picked up everything out of the yard. We put our rabbits in a closed in cage. We will have all the animals in the garage. All we can do now is pray to God that everyone will be okay.

STAR BOM BLOCK 2

I finished block 2!! I was so excited for the 15th to get here. My husband went out of town for the weekend so I can do whatever I feel like doing for a change. No cooking, no distractions, just sewing on my quilts. It took me 2 tries because the first time the block measured 12" GRRRR... I was checking it out and it looked like my seams were to wide. I ripped it out and started over again and this time it came okay. Anyways it is a learning process. Well, here is my block I like it. Thanks Judy!

My husband's new toy

Today we went and picked up a new toy for my husband to play with! He has always wanted a BIG truck. It's has all the options he wanted and we got a really good deal on it. We have a travel trailer and need a big truck to pull it with. My husband is retired and we plan on traveling and seeing some of the country. I really love it too. For being so big it has a smooth ride and is really quite inside.

Finished my bargello quilt!

I finished my bargello quilt today around 2 PM. I will be wrapping it up and giving it to my niece Rene'. I call it an I spy quilt because I used all different kinds of children's novality fabrics. I want my niece and her 5 year old daughter Venus to be able to play with it. That way they will both have good memories playing and snuggling together with the quilt. I am so excited and hope they like it.

I frogged the STAR BOM BLOCK #1 again

Hi I couldn't stand how crooked my stars were so I frogged it and did it over again last night! This one looks better but it is not perfect. I just brought me a Viking sewing embrodiery machine this summer and it did not have a 1/4 foot so I couldn't get my seams right. I also have an Kenmore and I decided to try the 1/4 foot from the Kenmore on my Viking and it worked!!! I was so happy. Here is a picture of my new block

STAR BOM BLOCK 1

Hi I made the first block for Judy L Star BOM. I had a few problems with it and had to do some frogging but I finally figured out what I did wrong! I cut Fab. 4 twice on the diagonal and it was to small to make flying geese. Next time I will read the directions carefully and take my time. It was fun and I can't wait till we get the next block ;)

STAR BOM FABRIC

I am starting a new quilt from a website called http://www.patchworktimes.com/ Judy Laquidara Star BOM quilt. It is so pretty! I can hardly wait till August 1 when we get our first directions. I have my fabric picked out.

Here are my quilts

String-X (1st quilt I made) Bargello 2nd quilt Orange Crush

Well, here are the quilts that I have started on. I am kind of shy about posting pictures of my quilts because I am a new quilter and mine can not even compare to some of the beautiful quilts that I have seen online but here goes. I hope in time my quilts will be as good as everyone else.
I found Bonnie's web site (www.Quiltville.com) and I fell in love with her quilts. Everything I know about quilting I learned from her web site. I have bought a few quilting books but I mainly go by Bonnie's tips and info. Bonnies makes everything so easy and she give the best directions. SHOUT OUT to Bonnie!! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience with us!
